Cougars (Puma Concolor) are known to be at risk these days. Most people do not know the reason behind this, but it is actually the human race who are diminishing the life of this fascinating creature. Many things have been debated on how best to save the cougar, but after establishing the main reasons the cougar are becoming endangered, they have decided to attack at this certain part. By the end of the 20th century Cougars had been driven to near extinction in some parts of the USA and other parts of central, north and east America. Florida panthers (Puma Concolor Coryi) have a population of a mere 100 individuals, whereas in western America there are around about 30,000 individuals. We as a race have been asked to slow our progress among habituated areas of America and to put a stop to hunting cougars and slow down the hunting of white-tailed deers in cougar territory. We have also been told that although we have a natural instinct to fear these cats, we must manage to hold our ground against an attack and to not harm the cougar as this will only frustrate it and make it more volatile. We need not fear cougars because they are the most unlikely big cat to attack unless threatened or disturbed when with prey. Also be careful of cougar cubs because mother cougars are very likely to attack if you approach their young. Write letters immediately to the US Fish and Wildlife Service and other state run wildlife services.

The cougar species as a whole has made a dramatic recovery with over 30,000 in the US alone. The main cause of decline is loss of habitat. Only 30 to 50 Florida Panthers remain in the wild today. Cause of decline for the Florida panther is human development and population growth in Florida, and some panthers are killed by collisions with vehicles. Also....
The cougar is endangered because of being hunted by man. The cougar has also lost its habitat, and could have possibly been poisoned from pollution and other types of poisons. When the cougar eats poison, it dies. Many cougars each year are killed by poison, or by being shot.
The cougars background is that it is in the cat family. It has many different cousins and different animals in its family. One of the cougars cousins is the Florida panther. The cheetah is another distant family member. The cougar's family is scattered all around with many different animals.

The cougar was once found over much of North America, including southern Canada from coast to coast. In the west it still occurs regularly, but the eastern cougar, which once ranged from the Carolinas north into Canada and west to the Great Plains is now protected as an endangered species. The Cougar was first placed on the endangered species list in 1967. Conservation efforts have only recently become significant to ensure that the animal will not become extinct.
Cougars were eliminated from most of eastern North America by the turn of the 20th century due to uncontrolled hunting and trapping, habitat fragmentation and destruction, and decline in their main food supply - the white-tailed deer.
With officials refusing to acknowledge its existence in the wild, the Eastern Puma risks losing protection under the endangered Species Act while fragile ecosystems of the eastern U.S. hang in the balance.
